Interactive Installation

The Dutch Directorate-General for Public Works and Water Management (Rijkswaterstaat) initiated a tender process to select a creative studio capable of designing and constructing an interactive art installation for their office lobby. The primary objective of this artwork was to illustrate the significance and intricacies of their "fourth network," the digital information system, complementing their existing road, waterway, and water system networks.

As manager of the tender submission, we proposed a cutting-edge approach to represent these networks dynamically and generatively. Our concept involved translating each network's data streams into distinct visual languages, which, when combined, form a cohesive and visually striking representation of Rijkswaterstaat's strategic domains. Our proposal included a technical approach for integrating and embedding these diverse data sets. Additionally, we emphasized our iterative methodology in developing the interactive installation.

We won the tender and the team successfully designed and build the installation. An impression of the final art piece is included below.
