Cycle for Plan

Child marriage remains a significant issue in Zambia, with an alarming 14 million underage girls forced into marriage annually. To aid these vulnerable girls, I embarked on a cycling journey covering over 600 kilometers in six days through rural eastern Zambia, raising nearly €4500 in support and awareness for the local community.

The majority of these funds went towards establishing and maintaining two dormitories in Chadiza and Petauke. These dormitories serve girls who previously had to undertake hours of travel to reach high schools in these cities. By providing safe accommodation, we significantly reduced their vulnerability and minimized the risk of them leaving school due to travel distance, an outcome that often leads to early marriage as families see no other options.

The remaining funds were allocated to various projects across Zambia aimed at raising awareness and enhancing the status of these girls and young women.

I documented my journey, from preparations to the cycling challenge itself, in a blog available under the Travel header or accessible through this link.
